DUBAI – The Dubai Fountain, one of the emirate’s most popular attractions, has been closed since April for extensive renovation and is set to reopen this October.

Situated on Burj Lake next to the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest performing fountain closed after its final show on 19 April 2025.

Emaar, the property developer behind the project, confirmed that the fountain will resume performances from 1 October, with the full show expected in early October.

What’s new?

The closure was planned for five months to upgrade the fountain’s technology and enhance its overall performances. Renovations include new robotics to control the choreography, advanced sound and lighting systems, and improved water displays. Before shutting down, the attraction drew thousands of visitors daily with water jets shooting up to 140 metres into the air, accompanied by music and lights, every 30 minutes between 6pm and 11pm.

The upgrade goes beyond the fountain itself. Along the promenade linking Dubai Mall and Souk Al Bahar, 500 metres of high-tech digital screens have been installed to keep the area animated while the attraction is closed. The lake was drained earlier this year to allow construction work and new flooring to be installed. Emaar revealed that the new concrete flooring will help prevent cracks and provide better water insulation. By August, the lake was being refilled, signalling that the reopening remains on track.

The closure affected restaurants overlooking the fountain, which usually enjoy heavy footfall thanks to prime views of the nightly shows. To support tenants, Emaar waived rent for 50 food and beverage outlets from June to September. Mohamed Alabbar, founder of Emaar, emphasised the fountain’s role in drawing visitors to Downtown Dubai, saying the rent support reflects the company’s long-term commitment to its partners.
